About AMWA

Mission Statement

"AMWA - meaning confluence in a Bushman dialect is symbolic of the coming together of African creativity, commercial viability and social responsibility."

We are a design and manufacturing workshop based in Knysna, South Africa.  Our workshop wholesales to the retail trade and exports internationally.  Our own in-house design and collaboration with other artists and designers results in the production of our original and unique products and ranges.

Fair Trading, Environmental Responsibility and Commerical Viability, are integral parts of the manufacture and marketing of our products.  As Fair Traders we endeavour to operate in such a way as to ensure an equitable and ethical relationship with all our stakeholders.

In this regard we aim to:

  1. Ensure the profitability of our organisation in a transparent and sustainable way for the benefit of all stakeholders, by conducting the business in a professional and ethical manner.
  2. Ensure that the high standards of service and quality of products are continually assessed and improved upon.
  3. Continually assess and improve the materials and processes involved in the life cycle of our products, in order to reduce their environmental impact as well as ensure the highest levels of environmental best practice.

Operate within the principles of Fair Trade:

  1. As far as consistent with viability, wages should be pegged with the objective of achieving a decent livelihood for all employees.
  2. To create a secure and supportive work environment.
  3. To provide ongoing training and education focused on empowerment as well as an affirmative policy of internal promotion.
  4. Allow for personal and professional growth with an emphasis on improving the equality of women.
  5. Promote the broader aims and objectives of "Fair Trade" within the ambit of our operations.
